Reflection of Haiti Game

In global issues class, we played the game about Haiti. I was really nervous while I was doing this game because they lost their money easily. They worked very hard but they couldn’t be given enough salaries. The children couldn’t even be educated because their family didn’t have enough money to send them school. They were suffering from poverty. I felt very sad and wanted to help Haiti people.

This game is about Haiti people’s life. They have only 300 GOUD in a season. There are five family members. However, they didn’t receive enough salaries even though they worked very hard. And they got disease very easily. Unfortunately, if they fail at working, they can’t go to the hospital although they get disease such as cholera. If they aren’t sent to hospital, they are dead. We can know what Haitian’s life is and how they work.

I chose health for primary objective because I thought Haitian had to be healthy; I really wanted to help them. Furthermore, they are suffering from the recent earthquake. They lost their shelter and family. They are being frustrated. That’s why I chose health.

They had to be healthy but if they didn’t have enough money, they couldn’t go to hospital. Therefore, I made them working very hard to earn enough money. They have earned the money as much as they could. So, when they were sick, I could send them to the hospital. When they became healthy, they worked again. I was keeping this pattern to make them healthy.

I sent father and the oldest brother to work in the factory. They were strong and able to work very hard. Mom and sister were sent to the family farm. I wanted them to earn much money so that they could use money whenever they wanted. I sent the youngest brother to school because he couldn’t work for a long time and he is too young. He will easily get exhausted. He had to be educated so that if he becomes a grown-up, it will be very useful.

Parents would choose to devote so much effort sending their children to school because it’s really necessary. If parents are people who really care about their children, they should send their children to school. If they are educated, they can earn or work very easily in the future and they will be really helpful.

Maybe just few people were able to keep the children in school because the family doesn’t have enough money that they own. It might be difficult to send children to school. They often fail at working and farming so they lose their money very easily. The family didn’t have enough money to send their children to school. Even if they sent their children to school it didn’t take long time to study in school. And, children usually got disease, so they couldn’t go to school any longer.

In my own community, if we work hard, we get enough salaries for that. However, Haiti people can’t get. If they are unlucky, they are in poverty. They don’t even have money to send their children to school.

Access to education might be a challenge in another country because although those countries have more money than Haiti people, they still have to work to earn enough money to afford education, healthcare and food. If they don’t work, they might be in poverty. In the other hand, in some countries, gender equality has not been achieved yet. Girls are being forced not to go to school while the boys are sent to school.

Having enough money and having a good health would make it easier for the children in the game to gain access to education. In this game, most children can’t be sent to school because their parents don’t have enough money to send their children to school. Or, even they are sent to school, they get disease very easily, so they can’t go to school. A lot of things have to be changed especially the climates of Haiti. There are many disasters occurring in Haiti. Hurricanes often cause a lot of crops to be destroyed, leaving many Haitian families with nothing.

-More Information about Haiti-

AIDS/HIV

What are your reactions?
I was really impressed. I thought just few students (?) would participate in AIDS activities. However I could see the student’s enthusiasm and I was really happy. Also I heard the student’s conversation about AIDS day, which I felt we were doing really great job.

What did our actions mean to you / other students at ISKL / the world around us?
Our actions that we did on World AIDS Day made me really think about people who is suffering from AID and HIV. I felt that I have affected the student’s think about World AIDS Day.

What were your highlights from yesterday?
All incidents were my highlight. I really enjoyed them. Especially, soccer match was the best activity. I was standing and cheering for the students. It was really enjoyable. Furthermore, I enjoyed seeing the students wearing red T-shirts. I felt that all the students was thinking about AIDS day and gathering together.

What will you remember about the day?
We were all collaborating constructively. We had a lot of activities yesterday such as bake sale, soccer match, ribbon hunt and face painting. Although, we were separated into the different other groups, we did good job. I also remember that the other students really participated in our AIDS day activities. I am really thankful for them who participated in activities enthusiastically.

What do you think GI students should do next year on World AIDS Day?
What did you learn after taking part in an action project like this?
Students should educate the children who don’t know much about AIDS/HIV. Before doing these activities, I didn’t know AIDS was that serious. I also didn’t understand what AIDS/HIV is. However, I feel that I have learned very precious thing. I learned how serious AIDS is and what we should do on World AIDS Day. By this experience, I really feel that AIDS people desperately need to be helped.

What should we do on AIDS day?

What should we do on AIDS day? What thing that we can do on AIDS day? In the world, many people are dying because of AIDS. As the result, AIDS kills about million people in a day. However, most of the people are never tested for AIDS. They don’t have enough money and they need to be helped. Let’s find the way to do something for suffering people.

1. Donate the money for AIDS people
According to Internet, many people are never tested for AIDS because they don’t have enough money. Even though, they have AIDS, they can’t take care themselves. We should help them to take care and have the medicine. Therefore, on AIDS day, we should make donation place for suffering people.

2. Create the activities about AIDS
If we make the activities about AIDS, people can be reminded what AIDS is and how could we do on AIDS day. Yet, I haven’t thought about those activities but I think that will be so good to know about AIDS.

3. Gather children to educate them what AIDS is.
Some children don’t know about AIDS. They even don’t know how people suffer from AIDS. If we educate people about AIDS, they will know what AIDS is and they will realize AIDS is getting too serious.

We should help people who are suffering from AIDS. On AIDS day, I hope many people can help the suffering people and also they will be helped soon. Let’s try to help them!

Global Issues

"Most of the things worth doing in the world have been declared impossible before they were done." -------L. Brandeis

What are Global Issues?
Global Issues are incidents that occur around the earth. Poverty, war, disease, discrimination, terrorism, the financial crisis, environmental issues and wars are few of the global issues. However, they are getting too serious and many people are suffering from thoes serious global issues.

Why should I care about Global Issues?
We should care about global issues because it can happen to us. Although the another poor contry such as Africa is suffering from those horrible issues, we can't just ignore them. Furthermore, we are living in same world :earth. All countries must help another countries which don't have enough money and food.

Blog Image and Quote.
"Global Warming is too serious for the world"------Tony Blair
I decided to upload this image and quote on my blog because I thought this is the worst global issues. Now, the earth is getting too hot and its temperature is increasing gradually. It has been effecting Anartica's iceberg so the sealevel is also increasing. As the result, some parts of the land in Netherland have been sank because of global warming. We should cooperate to solve this problem.
